Jon Sparks

Lancaster based photographer Jon Sparks added to his collection of awards last weekend in the Outdoor Writers’ Guild Awards for Excellence. OWG members travelled from all over the UK to attend the Guild’s Annual Dinner which was held at the Cally Palace Hotel near Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway, on Saturday, November 6.

In the Outdoor Book category the winner was Jon’s Lake District Moods, published by Halsgrove Books. The judges called it ‘elegantly presented – showing an intimate knowledge of the terrain’ and described the captions as ‘prose poems’.

Lake District Moods sold out its first edition in under a year and has now been reprinted.

In the photographic award, Jon was Highly Commended for a portfolio on Moods of Lancashire. These photographs are destined for a book of that title, which will be a companion to Lake District Moods.

Jon Sparks is well known in the Lancaster area: his images are familiar from Greetings Cards, Postcards, Calendars and many other publications. But his work covers a much wider span. Jon has photographed on five continents and contributes to global image libraries. He has published words and pictures in a wide range of magazines. As photographer, writer, or both, he now has nine books to his name, and several more forthcoming. Along with Moods of Lancashire Jon is also preparing Portrait of Lancaster, which will include many favourite photos of the city as well as many new ones.
A full list of book titles is at the end of this release.
